For more involved issues send email to qgroundcontrol@googlegroups.com providing as much detail as possible:

  • What Operating System and Version you are using?
  • Where did you get your build of QGroundControl:
    • Downloaded a prebuilt version from qgroundcontrol.org: If so, when did you download it?
    • Built QGroundControl yourself: If so, what version of Qt are you using and when did you pull the latest master?
  • What type of board are you connecting to: Pixhawk from 3DR, Clone Pixhawk, etc.?
  • What type of firmware and what version are you running? PX4, ArduPilot, custom?
  • Exact steps to reproduce the problem. Starting from booting QGroundControl to when the problem occurs.

Logging

QGroundControl has extensive logging built into it which can be turned on and off. This can be helpful for tracking down problems. You may be asked to turn on logging for a specific area when you report a bug in order to help debug it.

You can turn Logging options from the Console screen under Settings.

Reporting Crashes from Windows Builds

  • Create a file called qgccrash.reg with the following contents:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\qgroundcontrol.exe]
"DumpType"=dword:00000002
"DumpFolder"="c:\\qgccrash"
  • Double-click it to install to your registry
  • Create a c:\qgccrash folder on you machine
  • Now when QGroundControl crashes it will place a dump file on you c:\qgccrash folder
  • After QGroundControl crashes, place the newest instance of the .dmp file in a public location
  • Send an email on the QGroundControl group with a link to the .dmp file and above details

Reporting Hangs from Windows Builds

If windows is telling you the QGroundControl program is unresponsive use the following steps to report the hang:

  • Open Task Manager (right click TaskBar, select Task Manager)
  • Switch to the Processes tab and local qgroundcontrol.exe
  • Right click on groundcontrol.exe and select Create Dump File
  • Place the dump file in a public location
  • Send an email on the QGroundControl group with a link to the .dmp file and above details
